Arcade Action

For Father's Day we took a trip out to an Arcade in Northbrook, IL called Nicklecity. We went at the perfect time because the place was pretty empty. Also the cool thing about this Arcade is all the games take nickles instead of quarters or tokens (which are usually the same as quarters anyway). Which is great cause newer games take up to four nickles. That's only 20 cents for you kids who suck at math. Hands down the best part was that many of their classic games are set for free play. I could easily spend all day there and still not play everything. Check it out if you are in the area :

Retro Finds

Found two new NES games at Half Priced Books today to add to the collection.
The Goonies 2 and Robocop

Weekend Retro Game Challenge : Keith Courage in Alpha Zones COMPLETED!

So I did it. I was able to complete this Weekend Retro Game Challenge to beat Keith Courage in Alpha Zones for the TurboGrafx. It's nice to have a check mark in the win column after being disgraced last weekend by Ninja Gaiden. I would have to say though I thought this game was not very difficult at all. I pretty much walked through the game. It really wasn't until I reached the final under world zone that I felt any real difficultly.
In Keith Courage you have two parts to a zone, the upper and the lower. The upper part of the zones are comprised of many little enemies that you have to destroy in order to receive gold that you can use to buy items to aid in Keith's quest. The lower zone is much cooler than the upper. Keith jumps into a bad ass little mech suit to cut down any BAD Dudes that get in his way. The game play is a lot faster in the lower zones which is why I liked it much better than the upper ones. The bosses were also a cake walk and didn't take much effort to defeat them. The last boss was the only one who gave me trouble, but in the end I was able to put him down.
Keith Courage in Alpha Zones was a fast play through and I would say it was fun to kill some time with.

Weekend Retro Game Challenge : Keith Courage in Alpha Zones

This weekend I'll be playing the only game I actually own for the TurgoGrafx, Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. I picked this game up a few months back at a Flea Market for $5 and haven't taken the time yet to sit down and play it. So I thought it would be the perfect choice for my Retro Game Challenge.

Never owned a TurboGrafx when I was young and to be honest I had never heard of the system until I started to get into retro games. Believe me when I say that it was an incredible surprised when I found the system in a drawer at my Mother-In-Law's house. It had no games and no ac adapter but other than that it was in perfect shape. Fast forward six months, now I have an ac adapter and most importantly a game. Now I am ready to sit down and spend a little time getting to know my TurboGrafx.

Weekend Retro Game Challenge : Ninja Gaiden NES FAILED!

So once again I couldn't take Ryu all the way to victory. I did end up making it to the final bosses. I beat the first guy and then got stuffed by the second boss. The worst part of losing is having to go back to the beginning of Stage 6. On the bright side I was forced to fight my way through Stage 6-2 over and over to the point that I don't find it so difficult anymore.

In the end I had a great time playing Ninja Gaiden this weekend and look forward to a rematch sometime very soon. Excellent game. Hard as hell.

Antique Flea Market

Located at the Lake County Fair Grounds Zurko Promotions holds an Antique Flea Market about once a month. I don't usually buy anything from this market but it's always cool to take a look around. I always seem to see some cool things that I hadn't seen or thought about in years.
Mr. T and Hulk Hogan are ready for a little tag team action.
To bad I don't have a land line.

Weekend Retro Game Challenge : Ninja Gaiden NES

I have never beaten Ninja Gaiden before. In fact I had never even played the game before earlier this year. When I did finally sit down to play it I got my ass handed to me. After dying about a hundred times I was able to make it to passed Stage 6-2. I eventually got tried of being destroyed so I committed Seppuku and shut down the NES vowing to one day to complete my quest to beat Ninja Gaiden.

It's Friday! Time to ninja out and play Ninja Gaiden for the NES. Am I up to the challenge? Do I have what it takes to face an onslaught re-spawning enemies? Maybe.
