Are You Kidding Me?

Another crazy Craiglist add for a "very rare" NES game. No low ballers, please. I did check Amazon and sure enough they are selling a copy for $699 http://amzn.com/B00004SVNS. It must be sealed and graded, but still it seems a little excessive.

Flea Market Season Is Open

Iron Man made out like a bandit today.
Wolff's Outdoor Flea Market officially opened up today. Besides being a little windy the day turned out to be a really nice. Lots of vendors selling odds and ends. Not the best day for retro video game hunting though. I was only able to find two things I was willing to shell out for. Other than that there where a couple of resellers with over priced games.

Boxed Ghosts 'N Goblins $5 & Original Game Genie Box $1

Inner Child Collectibles & Comics

A few months ago I met a guy at a the Gurnee Comic Book show that said he was the owner of a collectibles store in Kenosha. I had been meaning to check it out and I finally got the chance yesterday. Located at 5921 6th Avenue Inner Child Collectible & Comics is a store that you can't miss. Just seeing the outside of the store would make any geek want a peek inside.

From the moment I entered the store I was hit with instant nostalgia. Vintage toys, comic books, and retro video games. I saw things I hadn't seen in years. I could have easily spent an entire paycheck there, but I don't think my wife would appreciate that much.

The retro video game section is solely dedicated to Nintendo stuff, but thats alright because they have quite a few carts and boxed items. Prices where pretty reasonable too. I found a couple of NES games for cheap, and some other things caught my eye that I'll be looking to back for once I have some more coin to spend.

Midwest Gaming Classic

So another Midwest Gaming Classic has come and gone. This was my second year going. I had a great time and got to play a bunch of fun games I wouldn't normally get a chance to check out. This year there were quite a few pinball machines. Seemed like a lot more than last year. I haven't played much pinball but whenever I get a chance to I tend not to pass it up. There are a couple of pins that I have always wanted to play, one such pin is Tales From The Crypt. I was a big fan of the TV show growing up. Even though I was rubbish at it I still had fun playing.

Aside from the arcade and pinball games I spent most of my time at the show in the museum area. This year they took over a few hotel rooms and filled them with different genres.

The import room was probably my favorite. I played some Famicom game with a little Jason dude, lots of fun. In the general museum area they had the standard consoles setup and a couple of uncommon ones.

Phillips CDI

Neo Geo AES
So heading into MGC I had planned to focus on building up my Dreamcast and Sega Saturn collection, but I just couldn't find anything I wanted for a reasonable price, especially Saturn games. I really can't believe how expensive they are with most decent titles being price at $20 + dollars. I wish I could find them a little cheaper. I guess I'll have to keep looking. I might have struck out on the DC & Saturn, but that was diffidently not the case for the NES, Genesis, & the N64. I didn't find anything rare, just games that had sentimental value or seemed interesting.

Finally I have Goldeneye
Light gun game!

Dynamite Headdy, another great game by Treasure.

MGC 2013 was a blast. Met some cool people and gamed a lot. I can't wait until next year.

Retro Pick Ups

Took a trip down to HPB today in order to take advantage of some coupons. I picked up Tiny Toon Adventures on the NES. I remember playing this one when I was a kid. Not sure if I rented it or if I owned it, either way I recall liking it. Also picked up a DVD for a buck, Hey Vern, It's Ernest! A short lived Saturday morning TV show starring the one and only Ernest P. Worrell. Anytime Ernest would come on the TV my siblings and I would be glued to it. We loved Ernest movies. I still watch Ernest Scared Stupid almost every Halloween. I played the DVD for my kid on the ride home and was really happy to see them laugh at Ernest and all his different characters.

Retro Video Game Pick Ups

So today my oldest son and I went game hunting at a few of the local Flea Markets. I picked up two Nintendo games Pac-Man and Sky Shark. I'm interested in digging into Sky Shark which I guess is a vertical shoot em' up. I love shmups so hopefully this it's a fun one. Pac-Man has always been one of those games I could play and have a good time even though I'm not to good at it. Not much else I can say about Pac-Man except that it's Pac-Man on the NES.

Also picked up two PlayStation one games Die Hard Trilogy and Tekken II. I owned both of these games when I was a kid but like all my old games back in the day I ended up (regretfull now) trading them in. Anyways, we played the crap out of Tekken II when I was a kid (love this game). I was excited to add it back into my collection. Although it didn't come with the original case and manual I was more then happy to play the $1 the lady wanted for it. I can't remember much about Die Hard Trilogy except that I used to like it and thought it was fun. I guess we will see how it has held up compared to my memories of the game. All in all it was a pretty nice day. I ended up seeing a lot of cool things and I met some nice folks.
