MGC Pick Ups

The Midwest Gaming Classic is going on right this very moment. Unfortunately I had to leave a little early today due to a family emergency. Anyways since I do have this moment of down time I thought I'd share some game pick ups.

While not at all rare or anything special I still had to pick up MK & Street Fighter 2 for the SNES. I suppose it's more for sentimental value.

Next up, Bust-A-Move 2 and the awesome Gunstar Heroes. Bust-A-Move has always been one of those games I can pick up and play with ease. It wouldn't matter if it was for 2 mins or an hour it is always a fun time. Gunstar Heroes is a game that flew totally under my radar growing up. It wasn't until I started to collect retro games again that I even heard of it. I played it on an emulator before, but like most games there is just about playing them on the original hardware that makes it that much more satisfying. I got a nice deal on it too. Score!

It Came From Craigslist!

For this edition of It Came From Craigslist I found a huge lot of Sega Genesis stuff. By far this is the largest amount of stuff I have acquired at one time. The lot came with a couple of Genesis systems,  a 32X, Sega Master System, and over 50+ games. Now I'll be honest with you guys, I for sure didn't need any more Genesis consoles. I already own a few spare systems. I didn't really get into collecting to turn a profit by reselling stuff. I figure I can at least past a few of these systems along for a couple of bucks and make enough to purchase something I really want.

The hardware I am the most happy about picking up is the 32X. Why? I guess it was just one of those things I wanted when I was a kid but never got. Also came with two 32X games, Doom and Star Wars, to start my new collection.

Picking up the Master System was also a big plus. The Master System is console I was totally unaware of until I started collecting retro games. The Master System came with three controllers, the light phaser, and a broken pair of 3D glasses. Growing up we had a NES and I was pretty young at that time so I guess I just missed it. Although I do vaguely remember seeing some Master System games at a department store. I remember the boxes, the simple white background with lines crossing and some sort of artwork on the front. I already have a power base converter with a like two games. So I have had the ability to play MS games but for whatever reason I like to try and play things on their original hardware.

Along with the hardware came a nice bunch of cords and controllers.
My Genesis collection is really starting to become massive with these new editions. A ton of cool stuff here with a few duplicates of games I already own. Lots of stuff that I have never played here so it should be fun trying them out. I just started a Twitch TV channel http://www.twitch.tv/badretroblog# where I plan on posting some videos of me playing through the games. I'm still working out the bugs with my broadcasting setup so I apologize for any problems with the videos.

Mutant League Hockey!

Lots of sports games.... Yea.

Retro Video Game Pick Ups

So today my oldest son and I went game hunting at a few of the local Flea Markets. I picked up two Nintendo games Pac-Man and Sky Shark. I'm interested in digging into Sky Shark which I guess is a vertical shoot em' up. I love shmups so hopefully this it's a fun one. Pac-Man has always been one of those games I could play and have a good time even though I'm not to good at it. Not much else I can say about Pac-Man except that it's Pac-Man on the NES.

Also picked up two PlayStation one games Die Hard Trilogy and Tekken II. I owned both of these games when I was a kid but like all my old games back in the day I ended up (regretfull now) trading them in. Anyways, we played the crap out of Tekken II when I was a kid (love this game). I was excited to add it back into my collection. Although it didn't come with the original case and manual I was more then happy to play the $1 the lady wanted for it. I can't remember much about Die Hard Trilogy except that I used to like it and thought it was fun. I guess we will see how it has held up compared to my memories of the game. All in all it was a pretty nice day. I ended up seeing a lot of cool things and I met some nice folks.

RVG Pick Ups

I started to find all the black box games for the NES. Got these guys at a local retro game store. I always find the Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt combo cart so I was surprised to find the individual ones.

Also found some PlayStation long box games. PlayStation was a console I got for Christmas when I was kid. I spent many hours on it and have a ton of memories from those days. So when I came across these long box games at a garage sale today I knew I couldn't pass them up. Each one holds a special place in my heart, especially Wipeout. So now I'm actively looking for long box games to add to the collection.

Now the find I was most excited about this weekend was the Guncon. Found it at the same garage sale as the long box games. I loved this light gun when I was a kid. I would spend many many hours playing Time Crisis with it. For whatever reason someone decided to buy just the game and not the gun the day before at the sale so the seller gave me the Guncon for half price. Just have to find Time Crisis and I'll be a happy camper.

Leftovers. My SNES collection is slowly growing and my NES collection is starting to become respectable with the addition of the beat'em classic of Double Dragon.

It Came From Craigslist

______________________________________________________________________

Found an Ad on Craigslist for a Sega Saturn that I just couldn't pass up. I have been looking for one ever since the Midwest Gaming Classic where I got to play one for the first time.  I don't recall the game I played, only that it was a shoot em' up and that it was awesome. Growing up I was diffidently a Playstation guy so I never really  payed much attention to the Saturn. All I can remember about the console is going into the game store in the mall and noticing the long Saturn game boxes lined up on the shelves. Not sure why that memory sticks out in my head. Weird.

Looking forward to logging some quality time with this new edition to my game room, but before that can happen I need to find some games for it.  Which may be harder than it sounds because so far in my travels I haven't come across any Saturn games. So let the hunting begin.

Reader Question:
What games should I be looking for on the Sega Saturn? Let me know.

Retro Finds

Hey retro dudes and dudettes. This weekend I checked out a couple of new places in my area that I heard may sell retro games. The places ended up having a ton of retro stuff. One place even had a nice import section. Unfortunately most of the merch was way over priced. Even with the prices being a little out of line I was still able to find a few things that were more in my price range to add to my collection.

Sub Terrania

Ninja Gaiden 2 (damanged label but I'll fix that) and Bubble Bobble

Not a perfect label reproduction but at least I can read it now.
Robocop Vs. Terminator and Wrestle Mania

Now for what I'm not sure is a nice find or not, a TRS-80 color in the box with a couple of games. I am not really into the older computer gaming stuff especially something as old as the TRS-80, but for whatever reason I decided to grab it.

The box says it all

Bustout, Space Assault, Chess.

Maybe I'll learn some Basic...

Retro Finds

Mega Man 2 and Castlevania
With the help of the mighty Ebay I was finally able to find these two classics at a good enough price to add them to my collection. I actually played and beat Mega Man 2 a couple of weeks ago on IOS, and have been looking forward to playing it on the original hardware even since. It will be nice to play with a controller and not a touch screen. The faster paced platforming required to get through the game was made a lot harder with my fat fingers pounding away on my Iphone screen.

Castlevania is one of those classic games I just missed out on back in the day. My only real experience with it is through casual emulator play. Can't wait to give this one a go.

Retro Finds

Little Nemo & Ghost 'N Goblins
Hello all Bad Username here with some more retro video game finds. This week I picked up two Capcom NES games at a retail store for role playing / card games called Colosseum Games located in Kenosha,WI. The person who helped me out was really friendly and I could tell he also passion for retro games too. I think he may have been the owner but I am not entirely sure. Anyways at the front counter they have a small section of retro games; NES, SNES, N64, etc. Prices are about what you can expect for a retail store, up words of $20 for the more popular retro games. With that said I feel I got a good deal on the games I found today. I will definitely check in there every now and again to see what comes in.

Retro Finds

Found a garage sale on Craigslist that said it had a bunch of old school games so I went to check it out on Saturday. The guy had a ton of stuff from 3DO to Virtual Boy. This guy had a little bit of everything. Turns out he was a re-seller so most of his stuff was priced  kind of high for me, but after some digging around I was able to find somethings that were reasonable.
