Weekend Retro Game Challenge : Friday The 13Th NES
In the 1980s the Friday The 13Th movie franchise was slicing its way through theaters. There was just something about horny camp counselors getting gutted in the woods that would pack people into theater seats. So obviously trying to capitalize on the series incredible popularity, Friday The 13Th the video game was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
This weekend I played Friday The 13Th for the NES for my Retro Game Challenge. I was not able to beat the game. It's not the most complicated game, but lets just say a lot of campers died this weekend because of me. So in the game you play as six camp counselors who have to protect a bunch on campers from Jason Voorhees, a murderous mongoloid hell bent on hunting down any one stupid enough to set foot near Crystal Lake. Each one of the camp counselors have there pluses and minuses when it comes to their skills in the game. Basically you walk around killing zombies and other things that try do you in while finding items to aid you in keeping your head. At first I didn't really know what I was supposed to do in the game but was able to quickly figure it out once the loud beeping sound and the flashing cabin would appear on the map. Go to cabin and save whoever is there, easy enough right. Nope because Jason is waiting to F you up. I would like to think I gave Jason a hard time at least once or twice. For me this game is very repetitive from the music to the actual game play. I guess my favorite part of the game has to be the Jason fights, but other than that I don't see many other reasons to play it again. The box art is really cool though.

Good effort - that's about how well I did when I rented it in the 80s.
